This young athlete has substantial online following
Kai Trump can count on numerous high-profile backers as she starts her first LPGA appearance on Thursday.
The 18-year-old athlete, who happens to be related to a former US president, was granted a special exemption to play at the Annika competition in the Sunshine State.
The former president, an avid golfer, operates several international courses and regularly matches against Kai.
"He's fairly competent. I can't reveal details but we have some close matches," she mentioned.
The golfer shared that her grandfather, unable to come, told her: "Just don't get nervous."
"My grandpa essentially told me to go out there and enjoy myself," she explained.
"In my eyes, he's simply an ordinary family member. He won't be there this weekend. He's focused on running the country, so he's somewhat preoccupied."
As an amateur, Kai has competed in only three events in 2024 and maintains the 461st position in the American Junior Golf Association rankings.
However she's able to get advice from golf legend, in a relationship with Kai's mother.
"He represents the best player in the world," Kai expressed.
"Additionally, he's a more impressive individual. He suggested me to go out there, relax, following the flow."
The golfer will compete against multiple most prominent players in professional golf at the Annika, such as second-ranked the champion, England's golfer Hull, Lexi Thompson and 2023 champion Lilia Vu.
Officials commented that involving Kai exposes the sport to different demographics, especially with younger fans.
The social media influencer boasts millions of followers and has started a personal clothing and lifestyle label.
She begins at 5:30 PM GMT.
