The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Social Deduction Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a young woman harboring multiple personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct souls, each with unique anxieties and drives. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger something primal within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch against your will as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," explains a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity standing could be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
