The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a TTRPG set within the series' apocalyptic landscape. This initiative has been announced, with a funding drive scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.
"This endeavor aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the table, offering fans a new way to experience The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Launch products will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, miniatures, and various premium versions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, sending the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and violent factions emerge, transforming the urban landscape into a battlefield. To restore law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. This is where the agents enter the story.
Work on the RPG has been underway for approximately several years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a preorder system to access a wider market, particularly in the United States. Manufacturing will start immediately following the fundraiser, with deliveries projected for later in 2026.
An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
An early look at the system reveals it uses d10s predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and tactical approach. Agents leverage skills or traits to roll a handful of dice, typically from one to five d10s.
- Instead of adding results together, participants select a single “resolution die” from the group.
- This die is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Achieving a natural 10 triggers special effects, such as increased harm or boosted support.
Engagements Emphasize Positioning and Awareness
Fights stress placement and environmental awareness, mirroring the source material. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to reward coordination and clever tactics over simple statistics.
A Novel Health Mechanic
The way injuries is tracked adds a interesting narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their effectiveness by decreasing the size of their dice pool.
- At zero health, an agent collapses, but they’re not unconscious.
- They may still move and perform restricted acts, emulating the last stand seen in video game shooters.
- Any player knocked down must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like trauma or crippling injuries.
A Ready-to-Play Adventure
A free Quickstart Guide will be released soon. It contains a ready-to-play starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an assault by the violent Rikers faction, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. Further information and the complete product lineup will be unveiled closer to the Kickstarter start date.
