Liverpool Refuses to Change Forward-Thinking Philosophy In the Face of Recent Slump, Declares Head Coach Slot

The Dutch manager has stated that the Anfield decision-makers share his views regarding the poor performance streak and he refuses to compromise their attacking style in pursuit of a turnaround. The manager conceded that six unsuccessful results in seven matches was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Increasing Scrutiny During Challenging Phase

Slot accepted the scrutiny was intense before his rotated squad exited the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he emphasized that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the team's proprietors or management structure following a significant spending of approximately £450 million.

"They say similar things," commented the Liverpool boss, whose team next week face Real Madrid in the European competition and play against the Citizens in the domestic competition.

Squad Quality Stays Undoubted

Liverpool's manager thinks his team "possess an exceptional group if they are completely available and all ready for the schedule ahead". He noted that the transfer window acquisitions in players such as the attacking midfielder and the Swedish striker, who is probably unavailable again against the Birmingham club through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the near future and the distant prospects".

Team Cohesion Issues

When pressed on why his team were taking so long to gel, he responded: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can come up with several explanations why we are not winning as much or losing as much as we do but, as I consistently state, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."

  • Even if I could come up with multiple factors
  • When you are Liverpool you cannot lose
  • Unfortunately six defeats in seven games

Defensive Statistics

Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from open play this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The first-place team, Arsenal, have conceded only two. Yet Slot denies the team has been overly exposed and maintains there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a cautious system after 10 games without a shutout.

"In my view we're not conceding a lot of chances so I see no justification to change our playing style entirely but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he declared.

Recent Examples

"When facing United, how many openings did we give up? Versus the German side when we were ahead by two goals, we hardly conceded a attempt on goal. In every match we have played so far we haven't conceded a numerous openings. Absolutely not. We do give away a somewhat more than last season but that is related to us being behind early so you take a bit more risk. But in general I don't think that our issue is that we concede too many chances. Our problem is we fail to convert the openings we produce."
