Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
