Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels appropriate to comment publicly regarding the Trump presidency, worried it could intensify polarizing arguments and deepen rifts throughout the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Jennifer Lawrence
During a discussion, the Oscar winner shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars fail to influence in any way on who people vote for.”
She continued, “Why continue? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about voting for both conservative and liberal candidates throughout her life. Brought up by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and stating she realized during the Obama era that voting Republican was undermining her own rights as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she stated that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a disaster” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “as I feel she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
The star was aligned with most of Hollywood in her opposition to Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term seems distinct,” said she of his leadership. “Since he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for his first term. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
Current Projects
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she stars as a new mother who deals with her mental health in a remote area. At a press conference for the film in Venice, she commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by stating that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the conversations of the political landscape at present and how that is going to be accepted to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor aimed to shift outrage about the conflict to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she advised, which was interpreted as a nod to the recent commitment supported by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her part in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in Die, My Love. While the director has denied the narrative being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, Lawrence said that she connected with parts of her film narrative after the birth of her youngest child, shortly after filming concluded.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a drug called the prescription and I continued it for a short period and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
Jennifer Lawrence also spoke about the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, about having to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
