Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
